Final style of the pieces

I finally decided on the layout of the pieces, I chose to do a Anthony Burrill style poster design but however I chose to look at doing the work on indesign because I was unsure on the layout and I feel more comfortable using indesign software, this was however only for a few of the points, I chose these on the ones, that were the most important to me. However for all of the points as a collective I chose to do a double page spread to see all the various ideas I had. I want to now explain the actual reasons for my type choices and the reasons behind them as it is something that holds a lot of meaning;

The paper choice: I chose the paper to which was a brownish colour on my actual skin tone (which was the closet in the A4 or more store I could find), the reason for this was I felt that I wanted to relate it too me in a abstract way and the idea that its something thats a outward expression of you but how it is still apart of you like skin. I also did not just want to overlay text it over a image of my face as it could distract from the actual manifesto itself.  I chose a card because I wanted something more rigid and would not be easily destroyed but however can be manipulated and changed.

I decided on having the start of each of the points which was either 'fuck you' or 'fuck it' in a bold propaganda typeface as I wanted the feel of a old propaganda poster. In addition to this the bold type flows with the way in which the person will read the words, in the the Anthony Burrill style posters I chose to make the two words the main emphasis in the piece, as it would be the thing that grabs peoples attention, which would make people hopefully take notice of the actual point I am making.

The main point of the manifesto, which is the actual wording in the work. I chose a helvetica light typeface as I feel helvetica is seen as beautiful typeface, and is always seen as being professional and business like. Which even though my manifesto is personal, I wanted the actual content to look like a normal manifesto, I also chose helvetica due to the fact it can be combined with almost anything and is very adaptable to different styles. I decided on having the main points in grey as many manifestos are seen as being black and white, which is seen as being one way or another, however I did not want this for my own manifesto, so I therefore decided to do the main point in grey which is something that can be adapted and changed. When doing the work I came up with the idea of having various degrees of grey in which the darker the grey the more I believed in a idea or theme, as in every manifesto there is always favourite points that the author is trying to get across. In the Anthony Burrill style posters I chose to change the weight and size of the phrase a I felt that it made the piece more creative and visually appealing, I also let me dramatise certain words in the piece.

I finally chose to use the typeface OCR std as the typeface for the reason why I decided on a point, as I felt that it was something that was the most personal part in the piece. Even though the OCR std isn't necessarily seen as personal it is however for me one of my favourite type faces. I chose as well do to it in red as I have always like black and red typefaces working together in one piece, and it also gives the idea of propaganda across in a more dramatic way.

The last thing I did in the work was chose a title, I as something that I was kind of putting off as I wasn't really sure on what would be the right way to introduce the piece and make people want to carry on reading it. I settled on the changeable manifesto as it clearly gets across the main theme in my work which is the idea that my ideas are open to change and adaptation which even though its not properly the best title it suits my theme.

I presented the finished pieces today, (images will follow once photographed) and I felt that the idea of using the swear words was seen more as something controversial, and dramatic rather than purely just being a means of grabbing peoples attention and attracting them to the piece. This was something that I felt might happen however, it did actually grab peoples attention so I felt it was kind of successful. I also liked the way in which people may not have got the reasons for the type choices and some of the more abstract concepts in the piece.
